YearSeasonNS
SummerApparently the earliest nest found, of which a bird was incubating, was by be "Writer on April 18th. Of the scores of other nests found the latest was at Shakopee on {uly 3rd, at which time it t.leld three newly hatched young.
SummerAdult incubating on A:~;ril 21st (Wcolsey); nest with 3 eggs April 26th; a nest at Madison uith 1 egg May 12th (Mrs.C.E.Peterson)
SummerNeedless to say, many American Robins' nests were observed, but the first egg was laid on April 13th (Eisele &Downey). A nest found at Ono.n:i.a, July 3oth was crowded with 4 large young (Swedenborg). ·
Summer It vould be unnecessary to state that the usual nuuber of nests of this well~know.n bird were seen. Fifty-two of those investigated were reported. Eisele lists the earliest, containing 1 egg, It was found near ~1inneapolis on April 2oth. To Risser goes the dis• tinction of havingaiscovered the last, which, found near Sturgeon Lake on June 27th, was the repository of 2 eggs.
Summer The earliest record for the American Robin came from Mrs. ~Tilson, who found a nest being built on April 19th at l11ontevideo, Chippewa County. On the 25th the bird was incubating. The last oc:cupiod nest was seen on July 29th at Sturgeon Lci{e by that buoyru1ii youth called Risser. His lmack for always being at tho right place at the right time is well typified by this example, for he happened upon the aforementioned nest at the very time that the fledglings were leaving it. On August 5th l"JI'. A. C. Rosenwinkel saw 2 very large young nestlings (or ox-nestlings) out of a nest which he says they probably loft.on August 3rd or 4th. }1rs. Wilson included an interesting comment with her records: nmost of the American Robin IfeStf! in this locality contained only 2 eggs and in nearly every case only one nestling reached maturity. Probably this was due to our drought conditions.11
Summer Evans has data concerning a American Robin vrhich began building April 18th. Brackett and Turner found American Robins building a day later at Hopkins. Fron Park Rapids Dobie reports finding a nest without eggs April 22nd. The most interesting American Robin record of the ;>'ear comes from Prosser. Later the American Robins drove away their neighbors.
